I have written my story as objectively, as seen and lived by me over the last five years of my life, I’m prepared to share with you my almost unbelievable past. None of this has been subjective, yes others in my life will view incidents very differently from their own view points, but this is my true and personal account. It discusses very openly and honestly all the events that happened to me in the said five year period, the abusive relationship, that almost destroyed me as a person, and broke up my family and how my decision to leave my ex husband has completely transformed my life. We as a family had moved from Scotland to England in 2004, and the book follows the emotional rollercoaster suffered through relationships, love and hate, and how modern technology strongly impacts on our lives today. How academic courses can change perspectives, and how reflection now plays such a huge part in my life. How I dealt with, brain surgery, my children, house moves, jobs, home life, finance, the course along side being diagnosed dyslexic , children’s decisions, sexuality, holidays, almost drowning, the exit interview for my husband, his revenge, internet and email fiascos, strangers interfering in my life, a new love, trauma, a powerful relationship, heading home to Scotland, achieving a goal which I had set myself ten years previously, and ending up in a foreign country. It has been written to inspire others who’s lives may not be how they want them to be and shows with sheer courage and determination you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

This is a book written in first person, journal style, of a young woman's struggles and achievements during five years of her life. I enjoyed following the milestones in Bridget's life but, because of the style of the writing there is very little description or dialogue and a lot of introspection, which can make the reading heavy going at times with too much day to day detail. However, there are real achievements in her life, not the least being removing herself from an abusive marriage relationship and bringing up three children basically single handed, and there are real struggles with employment, finances, and lying men.Through it all, Bridget is true to herself, morally and as a parent, and eventually gets to work at a job she likes in a country she adopts. A strong example to others who may want to feel sorry for themselves.
There are lighter moments, like the continuous relationship with her hair dresser, whom she even calls up from Italy at one point to make an appointment for a cut. A lot of people will relate to the balancing act of children, work and longing for a proper romance. I would like to read some more of this writer, but in a lighter style, more fictional and with some real Scottish humour which I am sure she is capable of.
